This photo is one in a series I am doing on the wild horses of the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico.
This photo of a herd of wild mustang horse was taken on the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico. All the photos in this series were taken as I was on my way see some historic indian ruins and I came upon several small herds of wild horses grazing in the open range under the beautiful blue sky, white clouds with the low rolling mountains. To watch these proud magnificent wild animals as they grazed on the spring grass and intermingled with each other was very special and a once and lifetime opportunity for me. I tried to capture the spirit of each horse as I saw how each horse had it’s won place in the herd. To have the opportunity to be among these wild animals on the land of the Navajo Indian Reservation was an honor. This photograph was taken as the herd was slowly moving down the trail onto a new place to graze. The herds have slowly thinned out during the years and I can only imagine how beautiful it must have been a 100 years ago to see these magnificent creatures in large herds crossing the open range of New Mexico.
