Title: Abstract Springtime Lush Green Corn Lilies In A Colorado Mountain Meadow
I took this Springtime Lush Green Corn Lilies In A Colorado Mountain Meadow photograph in the high rocky Colorado mountains of Ironton Townsite while hiking with my brother and sister-in-law. The snow was melting leaving a field of vibrant rich green Corn Lilies. The sunlight hitting the colorful green leaves of the Corn Lily plants made them stand out among all the other wildflowers. The beauty of each Lush Green Corn Lily leaf is a like a piece of natural art only found in the meadows of the outdoors. I decided to make this photograph into an abstract and found out I loved the feel of it.
Corn Lily: Veratrum californicum is very distinctive and very common. Early in the spring it appears in mountain meadows as a green, tightly packed cluster of leaves pushing through soils moist from recent snows. Depending on the moisture it receives, it then erupts into a three-to-six foot tall corn-like plant and may then shoot up a long flower stem topped by white and green flowers. In dry seasons it is common to find no plants in flower; in moist seasons few to many plants flower in a few of the many clones that fill meadows.
Veratrum californicum spreads from underground roots; it is not dependent on seeds for reproduction. Corn Lily's leaves are deeply pleated and veined, with pointed tips; leaves clasp the main stem with a nearly vertical posture.
Jerry Cowart - My journey with photography is an ongoing and ever-evolving process. I am challenged to slow down each and every day in this busy world and to stop and admire all the beauty by which I am surrounded. What I have discovered is to enjoy the moment, to love the sound of the shutter as it goes off and be lost in the joy of that one perfect moment and be able to capture it in my camera. For that one magic moment, and in the blink of an eye it will be gone, I see the perfection and beauty in a world that is not always kind and loving as I would want it to be. My photography is about seeing and experiencing the beauty all around me and hoping it will move the viewer in a way they feel what I felt in that moment, in that once in a lifetime moment that has now been caught in the beauty of a print for all to see. It is my intention through my photography to share the beauty and perfection I see with those that view my work. I hope you enjoy my work and thank you for taking the time to view it.
