This photograph, Majestic Blue Sky Over Ancient Pueblo Pintado, was taken on the Navajo Indian Reservation in New Mexico. My brother who lives in New Mexico to took me this scared ancestral national historic site to see beauty of the ancient Indian civilization dwellings which are in the desert of the Navajo Indian Reservation. As I walked among the abandoned red stone dwellings and the sage grass I tried to imagine what it must have been like to have been one of the ancient pueblo people who lived here and built this magnificent Architecture. The Pueblo Pintado, Chacoan Great House is an archeology site that has many beautiful artifacts laying on the ground and dating back to AD 900- 1250s. To be there among the ancient ruins and to take photographs that day was a very moving experience I will never for get.
FYI: The Great House - archaeologists call Pueblo Pintado a “Chacoan great house”, a civic and ceremonial center utilized by many surrounding communities. The structure is a massive L-shaped building, open to the SE. The building is terraced, from 3 stories on the outside corner to the single-story enclosed kivas (round, semi-subterranean ceremonial chamber) on the interior corner. About 20 single-story rooms enclose the plaza and large enclosed kiva, The entire great house contained 90 groundfloor rooms, 40 second-story rooms, and 5 third-story rooms. A hundred feet southwest of the building is a subterranean great kiva 58 feet in diameter.
