I took a train ride from Silverton to Durango. I leaned out one of the windows and took this scenic photograph of the as the train was rounding a rocky mountain bend on it's way to Durango. What a spectacular ride! This vintage Narrow Gauge coal burning, steam-powered locomotive train pulled out of the train station at Silverton Colorado on it's way to Durango. The train winds through spectacular, breathtaking canyons in the remote wilderness of the two million acre San Juan National Forest along side Animas River Canyon.
Today the Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad continues to provide year-round train service. The locomotives used to pull todays train remain 100% coal-fired, steam-operated. The locomotives are 1923-25 vintage...
