Title: Foxglove Flowers of Many Colors And More Foxglove Flowers
I took this shot while visiting the New York Botanical Garden. A photographers heaven with hundreds of different kinds of flowers. This shot was taken inside without a flash, just using natural light. What a great day of shooting and smelling the roses! Its wonderful they let you take photo inside of the magnificent flowers.
FYI: Digitalis purpurea (common foxglove)
A popular ornamental, with tall spires of tapered, tubular, purple to pink or white flowers, common foxglove is also a source of digitoxin, used in the heart drug digitalis.
Common foxglove is thought to be native to west, south-west and west central Europe, and to be widely naturalised further east. Its exact status, whether truly native or naturalised, in each country is unknown, but it is possibly native in the following countries: Belgium, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy (Sardinia), Luxembourg, Norway, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain and Sweden (and perhaps also Austria, Denmark, Hungary, The Netherlands and Poland). It is naturalised in North America, and is listed as an invasive and noxious weed by the United States Department of Agriculture.
A National Historic Landmark, The New York Botanical Garden maintains one of the worlds greatest collections of flora. Its 250 acres include some of the most beautiful natural terrain of any botanical garden in the world, including dramatic rock outcroppings, rolling hills, waterfalls and ponds, the Bronx River, and a 50-acre remnant of the forest that once covered New York City.
